I have a dear friend, struggling with Addiction at this time. Prayers to the universe, God, a higher power, would be appreciated for all those that are actively struggling. Here's my thoughts on addiction, as I, myself, am a recovering addict;
Addiction will kill you. It will keep trying until it does. Addiction is destructive. It destroys relationships. Addiction hurts those that love us the most. Addiction will take everything good out of your life. Addiction will beat you down continuously, and every time you try to get up, it will beat you down again. The hard part is learning to beat back, to take the reigns of control of back, and to remove the power that addiction has over your life. You have to reverse the rolls, and beat the hell out of addiction because it's hell bent on killing you.
Addiction doesn't define me, it is not who I am, but addiction helped form who I am today.
Every day, we can only put one foot in front of the other. There is no other way.
